It has been mentioned several times that some of the threads seem to be going off in all sorts of directions. So, here is your chance to comment on anything you want. Tell me the good, the bad, the wish lists, etc. Anything is fair game.

Wishlist:
1) Podcasting support please. Top level menu in the device to keep my podcasts separate from my music.Bookmarkable so I can come back an hour later.
2) Gapless playback / Cross Fading between each song
3) Wireless Synching to PC
4) Time display somewhere on the screen.
5) Allow me to write small apps with XNA/C# and publish to the zune device. Yearly fee would be $50.00 half of what the XBox fee is today.
Video purchases on the Zune Marketplace, preformatted (of course!) for the Zune player.

My updated "wish" list:
1) Gapless audio playback for WMA, AA3 & MP3. (So, we're on parity with iPod & iTunes.) The only gapless we have now is with WMA on the Zune Software itself.
2) A way to optionally browse by "Album Artist" only on the Zune, so we optionally don't get all the extra contributing artists. This would be the near equivalent to iPod's "group Compilation" toggle feature. If you'll note, Zune on the desktop lists Album Artists only while doing an Artist browse, but the Zune portable uses both.
3) Native WMA Lossless playback on the Zune portable; no transcoding, please. (Of course, with an option to still force a transcode... not everyone wants to waste Zune space on Lossless.)
4) Ability to play & manipulate content on the Zune directly from the Zune Software. For example, with iTunes/iPod... you can play music, edit tags, change artwork, etc. just like the music is located on the computer. You can't do this on the Zune... making any changes requires you to delete it from the Zune and re-add it. You should (at the very least) be able to play the songs directly from your portable.
5) Use "WMA Pro" as an audio transcoding format on sync if needed. As the Zune supports the WMA Pro audio codec, why not use the better codec for forced audio transcoding? Right now you can only force "quality" transcoding to old standard WMA... with a "Select maximum quality level" of 64, 128, 160 & 192 kbps. Too bad. Take advantage of Zune's great WMA Pro ability.
6) Native H.264 video support on the Zune itself.
7) More source video format support for the Zune Software. At the very least, support DivX & XviD so it can be easily transcoded.
8) Optional 640 x 480 resolution video file support for Zune device, so TV or Xbox 360 output can be used effectively. 320 x 240 isn't enough.
9) Zune Marketplace content urgently needs Album Art bigger than 150 x 150.
All of the above is absolutely essential. The Marketplace and Zune firmware must be brought up to the iPod/iTunes offerings to level the playing field. Right now, that is not the case.
Also, using the Zune as a portable hard drive.
Love the device, like the software, dislike marketplace.
Marketplace music discovery needs to be vastly improved. The software keeps play counts, put them to good use and recommend tracks/artists I may like.
The genres in the marketplace are horrible. There needs to be more sub-genres and some artists are listed incorrectly. The current setup makes finding similar music extremely difficult.
Podcasting would be nice but I don't think it should be a top level menu (as Jeff above requested). Keep the top level clean, put podcasts on same level as songs, albums, genre, playlists, etc.
Marketplace genre/styles does need to be refined greatly.
Classical music selections (and search ability) is dismal. I realize classical music tagging is extremely difficult to do correctly. Although classical listeners may be relatively same in numbers they spend a lot on music. At Tower Records the classical music department accounted for 25% of all CD sales but only had 10% of the floor space.
i just wanted to reiterate the skipping problems and random shutting off... Hoped it would've gotten fixed in the update, but it didn.t.
Zune software's import should support rating and play count imports.
For the device: I'd like an alarm clock (or 6, if at all possible :)
I had an epiphany the other day: the Zune device should have the Zune software loaded onto it, so that when you plug your Zune into someone else's PC (or in my case my Home [sync] PC isn't connected to the Internet and is still running version 1.0), they too can experience the Zune software.
XBOX 360 support should be MUCH tighter. C'mon, you guys are all cousins here, right? When I plugged in my Zune, the 360 could only play the first hundred tracks. It got hung up when it tried to even look at what I had on the device. I'd really like to, at the very least, see some sort of wireless sync. I read that they both (controllers and Zune) operate on the same MS-specific 2.4 GHz frequency, so it shouldn't be too difficult, right? RIGHT??!?!?
I'm able to play all the songs on my 360... It takes a second or two sometimes to load up all the info. You have to be realistic and remember that the Zune's hard drive was not built for speed.
I'm not sure how much tighter the integration should be...

The Good:
-The device itself
-Firmware
-Sound quality
The Bad:
-Lack of meta deta features
-Software will close out if I try to edit information
-Lack of open source plugins, but I presume you guys will make a smart decision there.
The Wish list:
What has been said before has been said before. I'm sure you guys understand the importance of pleasing your early-adopters, as they will be your main street team.
These I will number in order of preference:
1)An SDK.
If Zune wants to really make a stronghold, then it is important to recognize the community of open source. Provide them with a SDK and they can come up with widgets, so to speak, for the Zune, and even some new wi-fi features. And plus, do this while the device is still new and while people are trying to crack the device, it's sure to be a successful venture and more in line with the vision that your company wants.
3) Video content
This could coincide with podcast support, but it's important that Soapbox will be part of this tri-directional experience. Not only that, but the codecs need a large expansion. I have 3 converters to get my videos into a decent format. (Hey, a SDK would take care of that little conversion problem too, maybe =)
4) Wireless features
First off, syncing. When you get right down to it, we really don't need this.
But I mean, right now, the social experience is limited, so perhaps computer syncing and store access is the way to go.
5) Podcasting
Some people would shoot me for having this so low on my list, but like R&D has shown, podcasting is really not all that integral, but built in support would really help this device.
Extra things that could be done
6) Social features
It would be really cool if there were some long-distance capabilities to enhance someone's chances of sharing songs. Like, for example, plugging your Zune in and finding other Zune users so they could form communities, etc- or even share songs. Not a huge idea, but a neat one I think.
All in all, the widget/gadget idea for a SDK I think would be VERY popular on the Zune and really boost this whole social experience.
Wishlist: What about this feature: "Windows Vista Sideshow Display" in the Zune itself. Initially Wired and if not asking too much, Wireless Sideshow. It'd be wonderful. ;-)
