Informal Zune Reviews
One of the side benefits of my activities is that I got to show my family some of the new Zune features and get (brutally) honest feedback from them. I was surprised at how well received it was across the board. The most enthusiastic were the folks who did not one an MP3 player at all. they loved the simplicity of the product. Even the iPod owners commented on how easy it was. most also LOVED the ZunePad. It was actually fun to see them flicking through long lists of songs for no other purpose than to see the tracks scroll by. I've told them all to update their Zunes tomorrow and download the new client and then give me more feedback, which I'll post as it comes in.

First, I am sorry to hear the sad news. Stay strong.
Second, it's great to hear that non-Zune owners are warming up to Zune2! Plus, it's always great when something awesome like Zune 2 comes along and even the iPod fanboys can't think of anything too bad to say about it. (We'll take that as a complement/ or envy)
P.S. Is there an artwork winner yet?

I'm very sorry to hear about your father. I wish you long life (if you have any Jewish friends, I'm sure you've heard that more than once this week). When you miss him, just look inside of yourself, and if you had a decent enough relationship, you'll find him there. It certainly works for me.
Even though I'm currently in the UK and will miss out on the warranty, I'm trying to get hold of an 8GB Zune via an eBay auction, firstly because I'm very intrigued and secondly because I'm totally ticked off with Apple's recent offerings (can you say "arrogance", "bugs" and "tilted screens"?). Before I even get my hands on one, I already don't like the lack of gapless and bookmarks. Also, I couldn't see properly on a video I viewed the other day, but it looked like the usual three tags (album, artist, track title) weren't all displayed on the now playing screen. I hope I'm wrong about that. On the other hand, I absolutely love the look of the player (I could have done without that black frame around the screen) and the interface. As someone who listens a great deal to the BBC's excellent radio service (news aside) in the UK, I also look forward a great deal to using the radio.
However, what really swayed me was Mr. Softee's customer friendly attitude exemplified by blogs such as yours and the decision to allow original Zune owners to upgrade. As I suggest above, Apple's arrogance is really ticking me off at the moment. I'll give you some examples: sending a legal letter to a little girl who sent in helpful suggestions, the use of slave labour at its factories in China, blaming Microsoft for an iPod software virus, the iPhone price reduction fiasco, total failure to communicate with iPod purchasers about ongoing bugs in players. I realise of course that Apple is considered to be the quintessence of cool, and much of that has to do with the public persona of the leader. Personally, cool clothes and attitude don't cut it for me. I think that Mr. Gates is way cooler given he is improving the lot of countless millions of people with his fortune. I like to think that it is that attitude which has filtered down to the Zune guys at MSFT, and, in general terms, is making it such a great company to deal with.
Well I live in Houston, TX, USA and I am a little upset that I was not told through any reviews or release notes that the Zune 80 would be impossible to phisically find in anactuall stores on launch date. Since Houston is the fourth largest city in the US I thought that there would be an aboundance. So, today I went to 4 Wal-Marts (24 hour), 3 Best Buys, 2 Targets, 2 Circuit Cities, 1 Comp USA, and finally tp Office Depot where I think I finally figured out that no-one in the electronics world here knows or cares about the new Zunes. It's almost like I have been speaking another language, and they all give me puzzled looks. The bottom line is that none of these stores have had a Zune 80 in them, and they have no clue when they will get one on their shelves.
In my quest I have found a total of 10 Zune 4's and 8's (mostly 4's)- which are nice, but after the firmware update on my Zune30 this morning I WAS hungry for the 80. However, now I am let down, and hope that the Zune marketing with get with the program.
How can Microsoft make a major release without the featured product (Zune 80)?
I'm not angry enough to say, "that does it. I'm switching to 'brand x," but I do feel cheated as a loyal Zune fan. This release in limited quantities is not the marketing approach Zune should have if they want to reach/ persuade the masses. I feel as if I am beating a dead horse here.
Zuneguy, please, please crack a whip on the marketing guys and get them going! Until then, I will continue my quest this evening hoping to find the coveted Zune 80 in one of Houston's 20+ Best Buy stores.

T-bone - There are 80s to be found. but, they seem to be VERY popular at the moment. If it makes you feel better, the team had to buy them at retail today rather than getting them gratis.

I did manage to get my hands on what is probably (for the moment) Houston's last reamining Zune 80.
I didn't mean to sound so harsh. I know that Microsoft wouldn't intentionally do this. I'll bet that the shortage is due to issues that are out of MS's hands.
What bothers me is that there isn't a "buzz" about the Zune like 'the other guys' get. But maybe that's just because it isn't holiday shopping season yet.
Side note: the Zune 80 rocks! You guys did an awesome job. I now sadly look at my Zune 30 as a red-headed step child. LOL!
I think one of your next topics should be about "what to do with your old Zune."
