Despite the iPhone announcment I think the immediate threat is from Apple TV. You can't wait as Apple lures millions of iPod users over to Apple TV. Two suggestions...

Sonos supports "Zune" content because Zune Marketplace is just good ol' PlaysForSure WMA. Since Sonos now supports PlaysForSure (and WMP 11, Vista, etc.)... it just works. It requires a PC to be your host, though.

Where were the announcements? there are a surprising number of announcements, but many of them get lost in the noise of CES. That's not uncommon and I actually prefer not to make announcements in January. Where were the new accessories? Take a look at the photos I just posted. Memorex has a very cool whole-home transmitter (it even has a shower module), JBL has 2 new docks (one is even brown), and iHome has a whole line of clock-radios. What's up with Sonos? Ron's right. It is treated like other services in WMP (but it does work and work well). What's up with Extender? There were lots of extenders at the show. HP is a big one. I believe Philips was there as well. I used to work on that project, so it is nice to see it come to fruition. And lastly, what about the iPhone? Looks nice. I'd have a VERY hard time switching from T-Mo. so no matter how good the phone is, it's not likely in my future.

iPhone looks impressive, but there are some drawbacks. Exclusive to Cingular/GSM only, 2 yr. contract & mandatory high monthly service costs.
I can't make any comments about usability until I actually touch one.
No matter... Apple will have a winner. Their demographic has more disposable income than others, and they'll eat it up.
